“There are a lot of things we can work on, including some of his ideas on education for example were very interesting," Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz, said. "But I must also say it was kind of difficult for Republicans to swallow a lot of the criticism that he aimed at us and then feel very good about cooperating in a new bi-partisan spirit.”

One of the words we often times here coming out of the White House is “Bipartisanship”. It is believed that bipartisanship as a form of cooperation can be used to unite two different parties to create a good result in the government to benefit the people. To get a bill past the two opposing side must work together. (In the case for the Health Care Bill I would agree that Bipartisanship would have been bad but there was no competition involved if the Republican side would have prose a different Health Care Bill then it would have had competition involved with their action instead they were cooperating with the people of the USA)

Why should the White House use Bipartisanship? Because cooperation can accomplish more. It means two interests are being provided for and you have the combined force of two opposing ideas for how things should be to come up with the strongest ones overall. Zbigniew Brzezinski once said “Bipartisanship helps to avoid extremes and imbalances. It causes compromises and accommodations. So let's cooperate.”
Peggy Noonan (Patriotic Grace: What It Is and Why We Need It Now) said about Bipartisanship “What we need most right now, at this moment, is a kind of patriotic grace - a grace that takes the long view, apprehends the moment we're in, comes up with ways of dealing with it, and eschews the politically cheap and manipulative. That admits affection and respect. That encourages them. That acknowledges that the small things that divide us are not worthy of the moment; that agrees that the things that can be done to ease the stresses we feel as a nation should be encouraged, while those that encourage our cohesion as a nation should be supported.”
